Dear Donald,
Thank you for coming to see me recently, and for your speedy comments on the revised explanatory note which we subsequently sent you.
This letter seeks to deal with a number of the outstanding issues.
Occupational groups
As I have already mentioned to you Ministers have now agreed that journalists and news editors, and health associate professionals should be reinstated. We propose to link the journalists and news editors with the information technology group, and call it information services. After careful consideration, it has been decided not to reinstate the social work group you suggested.
Residual category
Ministers have approved the operation of the residual category in the way we discussed at our meeting recently. We undertook to consider further the way in which the 'residual residual' places might be described, so as to discourage an avalanche of applications from those with no hope of success. We are thinking of something along the following lines, at the end of the list of the occupations/qualifications sought for the majority of places.
