NOTE
Redacted under FOI exemption section 27(1)
SSS requirements are to be trimmed down and qualifying rules
interpreted more stringently to yield no more than 6 300 places
up to 1997.
Places held in reserve, unlike those under GAS or
DSS, will have to be released as beneficiaries become qualified.
DSS gives a success rate for applications of about 1 in 7 in the first batch, with 1 000 places held in reserve to be
released in subsequent batches as authorized by Home Secretary.
GAS is limited to 33 300 places in first batch with 3 100 held
in reserve, to be released in subsequent batches as authorized
by Home Secretary. (For distribution among occupational groups
see Annex C.)
300 places have been reserved for the UK Secondment Scheme for
businessmen etc. as a charge against the second batch on grounds
that registration will not take place before 1995.
Total provision held in reserve i.e. 7 000 heads of households
represents 14% of Package.
