Base of employment for Scheme participants

Scheme participants would remain employees of their Hong Kong

Cable and business and continue to be paid from their home base. Wireless would hope that discussions could take place with the UK Inland Revenue authorities to reduce any potential double taxation

All the liabilities which employees would otherwise face. additional costs associated with participation in the programme would be met by the Hong Kong Telecom Group with a fee being paid by the UK Businesses to their Hong Kong equivalents for the provision of the services of the Scheme participants.

Numbers on the Scheme

The Cable and Wireless Group would aim to open the Scheme to some fifty to seventy participants in the first year with some increase in subsequent years.

The eventual aim would be to provide work experience or training for some five hundred participants from the Hong Kong Telecom Group between now and 1997.

Accommodation and other issues

The Cable and Wireless Group would take responsibility for accommodating participants while in the UK though any support which could be provided by local authorities or other housing agencies would be welcome. A project team would be established very early on, composed principally of employees from Hong Kong working in the UK, to manage all the operational, social and cultural issues involved and to provide an interface between the Group's Businesses in the UK and Hong Kong.
