Registration as a British citizen.

At the end of the five year period (ie by 31 December 1996 at the latest depending upon the commencing date of each secondment) each secondee's passport is sent to HKID with a letter from the sponsor confirming dates of periods spent in the UK and UK.
HKID confirms details from passport and computerised immigration records.

Any necessary further background checks are completed these may be appropriate where previous checks had been carried out some time ago.
Each case is considered and forwarded either to the UK team (if still operating in Hong Kong) or to IND with a Governor's recommendation whether to grant citizenship or not.
UK team/IND considers and grants registration as appropriate.
Disqualification from the scheme.
If at any time during the operation of the scheme information comes to light in Hong Kong about a particular sponsor or secondee which suggests that continuation of an approved secondment would be inappropriate, HKID will evaluate such information and advise IND whether the secondment should be terminated. IND will evaluate any information coming to light in the UK.
