remaining places will be "reallocated" to the General Allocation Scheme.
Sponsors will nominate secondees within agreed criteria. Following checks on background HKG will confirm acceptance of participants on the scheme. Details will be forwarded to IND.
9.
At the end of the five years, HKG will satisfy themselves that the appropriate residence requirements have been met. Registration as a British citizen will then be granted by the SofS on the Governor's recommendation.
10.
SELECTION OF SPONSORS
11.
Sponsors will be restricted to:
-
British firms based in Hong Kong with offices, subsidiary companies or trading partners in the UK;
- other Hong Kong based companies with branches in the UK;
- other companies or organisations (eg the Garrison, PSA, British
Council) at the SofS's discretion.
ACTIVITIES IN THE UK
12. Secondments will be for the purpose of work and work-related training (eg sandwich courses, post-graduate job-related education) only. The precise purpose will be required to be stated at the time of application.
BONA FIDES AND DISQUALIFICATION
Sponsors.
13. Enquiries will be made by HKG and IND (involving other Government departments in the UK) into the background of potential sponsors to ensure that they meet the criteria in paragraph 11 above, have the resources necessary to finance the secondments and that acceptable facilities are available in the UK.
14. Adverse information coming to light during the currency of the scheme could justify a sponsor's disqualification from the scheme. Depending upon the circumstances any secondees might also be disqualified (but see also paragraph 16 below). No decision on disqualification will be taken without reference to the Sofs.
Secondees.
15. Any adverse information coming to light at any stage may render the secondee liable to disqualification from the scheme. Disqualification of the sponsor might also be justified. No decision on such disqualification will be taken without reference to the SofS.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
16.
It will be a condition of acceptance on the scheme that the secondee remains in the employment of the sponsor for the duration of the approved secondment. The SofS will, however, have discretion to waive this requirement in the particular circumstances of individual cases, for example if the sponsor moves from Hong Kong, ceases to trade, or becomes unacceptable as a result of unfavourable information coming to light. In such circumstances, the secondee may be allowed to continue the secondment under the sponsorship of another firm or organisation.
