broad occupational groups. The no. of places to be allocated to each group is to be proportional to such relative weighting. Thus, for instance, the no. of places for group 1 is 33,300 x 6,514/17120 = 12,671.

Remark: The figures presented are tentative, due to limitations in the data available

currently. In particular, the EMI rates are based on the no. of visas issued in 1988-1989 (not 1987-1989), and more precise estimates of group sizes are yet to be made. Changes are likely to be made in due course, but current results may be

taken as close approximations.
