RIGHTS OF RESIDENCE FOR HONG KONG PEOPLE
1. We spoke on this subject following Mr Garel-Jones's tête-à-tête with the Chief Minister. As agreed I am copying to you the Private Secretary minute reporting, albeit briefly, the conversation. Your comments on the questions asked, without at this stage making a further approach to the Government of Gibraltar, would be welcome. In particular, can you confirm whether the 2000 figure is correct? You suggested that what the Gibraltar Government may have in mind is residence rights for just 200 Hong Kong citizens.
