There have been indications that some
Eastern European countries ie. the GDR and Hungary are willing to offer citizenship or permanent residency to Hong Kong people. Their main aim is to entice investment into their countries and our assessment is that they are merely "cherry picking" investors. There is however the possibility that people who are given these assurances might remain in Hong Kong. established that recent press reports of the sale of up to 10,000 GDR passports were false. The GDR have approved 52 passports in return for investment. the naturalisation process can be completed before reunification on
23 October, the 52 wuld become FRG citizens with complete freedom of movement in the EC after 1992. We are still investigating exactly what the Hungarian Government have in mind.
