LONDON VISIT OF MR JEFFERS: HONG KONG RESIDENTS FOR MONTSERRAT

With his letter of 18 April about the above visit to London, Chris Turner enclosed Mr Jeffers' record of matters discussed with Mr Sainsbury, Mr Beamish and WIAD, including the question of Hong Kong residents for Montserrat.

2. I confirm that Mr Jeffers indeed suggested while he that fifty Hong Kong families should be granted right of residence in Montserrat. It seems to me unlikely that any amendment to the British Nationality Act would be agreed by HMG, but we are taking this proposal forward with Hong Kong Department and will let you know what is decided in due course.
