NEGATIVE PUBLICITY ABOUT HONG KONG IN SWEDEN
G
20/4.
1.
I attach a translation of a very negative article on Hong Kong written by the Swedish Radio and Television correspondent in the Colony, Staffan Heimerson. It was published in "Outlook" a new magazine which is given away to travellers on Swedish Railways. Even by a Scandinavian yardstick, the readership will not be very large. Even so, you may perhaps wish to consider asking the Information staff in Hong Kong to try to sort Heimerson out.
2.
The magazine would almost certainly print a "letter to the editor" from the Ambassador or Information Officer but this would, of course, risk drawing evening more readers' attention to the original author's views. Should we in fact react at all to this article? If you think we should, we should be grateful for a suitable text.
