Government are aware of the uncertain fate of
the people of Indian origin in Hongkong, who are likely to be rendered
in 1997; after the British colony is handed over to China
stateless
and
regard?
(b) if so, what steps are being taken by Government in this

persons of Indian origin in Hong Kong who hold
4,500
British Dependent
Territories Citizenship do not have the automatic right of abode in
the United Kingdom. Government are of the view that these persons are
the
responsibility of the UK Government who should ensure
that they
are not rendered stateless.
