approval to establish residence in the FRG, subject to guarantees from the company of continued employment and support. On arrival in the FRG, they could then apply for naturalisation in the normal way. If the scheme is approved (which requires consultation with the Federal Laender), the maximum number of beneficiaries including dependants would be about 500.

The PUS raised the matter with his opposite number, Herr Sudhoff, at their meeting on 9 February. Sudhoff said he had taken this up with German industry and also the Interior Ministry, but this was a difficult time to press the point; the Interior Ministry had other distractions. The Embassy most recently touched base with the Auswaertiges Amt on 28 February. They were told that talks were continuing with the Interior Ministry, and that the AMT would keep
the Embassy posted.
