Discussion

on

traditional

rights of New

Territories indigenous males was confined to the New

Territories District Boards. A total of 10 members spoke on this issue. 8 were concerned about the implications of

the BOR on existing traditional rights and privileges of indigenous male villagers. They felt that such rights

and privileges had formed an integral and established part

of the social system in the rural communities and their

removal would create chaos and disorder, and hence

destruction of the existing social fabric. On the other

expressed the view that equality of the

sexes should be extended to the rural New Territories.
