MR SAINSBURY'S SANDWICH LUNCH FOR HUMAN RIGHTS NGOs:
23 JANUARY 1990: CALL FOR BRIEFS
1. Mr Sainsbury has decided to follow the practice of his predecessor of holding sandwich lunches for certain NGOs to discuss human rights matters. The lunches are timed to precede the UN Commission on Human Rights which begins this year on 29 January; but the NGOs are under no obligation to confine their comments and questions to matters related to the Commission. They are free to raise the full range of their human rights concerns. I enclose a list of the NGOS interested.
2.
I would be grateful if you could provide briefing on issues and countries which you consider may be raised at the meeting. Each brief should be confined to one side of points to make and one of background, and should be sent in final form to Charles Jacobson, UND, by noon, 18 January.
