FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE: VIETNAMESE BOAT PEOPLE

As you know, Mr Maude has agreed that questions on the provision for the Vietnamese Boat People in the Winter Supplementary Estimates will now follow his evidence on Hong Kong on Wednesday, 13 December.
2. PS/Mr Maude will therefore require additional briefing to cover this aspect. We agreed that, as HKD will be submitting the briefing on Hong Kong, it would be sensible for them also to submit this further briefing on the Vietnamese Boat People. You said that SEAD would, however, be responsible for preparing the material on the financial apsects of repatriation (Item (B) in the FCO Memorandum). I am therefore sending Mr Colvin a copy of the Memorandum together with a copy of my minute to you of 20 November.

I would be grateful if you would let me know in due course which officials will be accompanying the Minister on 13 December.
