Informal meeting with the Foreign Affairs
Select Committee
The Lord President told the Secretary of State this morning that he recalled having the Foreign Affairs Select Committee in for an informal drink on occasion. The Secretary of State thinks this would be a good idea and would like to have the Committee in shortly, after his return from Hong Kong. The idea would be to be able to talk informally, and to get alongise members of the Committee in a way which is not possible in formal sessions.
I should be grateful if you could check whether there are precedents. Perhaps you could also have an entirely private word with the Clerk of the Committee to ask whether he sees any difficulties.
