THE DISTRICT BOARDS IN HONG KONG
1. There are 19 District Boards in Hong Kong. They are
part elected and part appointed.

Elections to the District Boards take place on a georgraphical constituency basis, with a broad franchise covering all residents aged 21 years or over who have lived
in Hong Kong for 7 years or more. There are currently 264
elected members in total.
3. It is expected that changes will be introduced for the
1991 elections. An official committee, under the Hong Kong Government, has recommended that 210 constituencies should be provided in 1991, of which 147 would be single seat
constituencies and 63 would be double seat constituences.
The committee also recommended that a total of 273 elected
seats should be provided for the next term of the District Boards an increase of 9 seats as compared with the present
term.
