11 JULY 1990
1. I submit briefing for Mr Maude's session with the
Foreign Affairs Committee on 11 July.
2. The Clerk to the Committee, Mr Robert Wilson, has given
us a detailed indication of the areas which the Committee
will wish to cover, and the points they are likely to raise under each topic. The briefing has therefore been tailored
in accordance with the Clerk's advice. The evidence session
is expected to be structured in the following way:
(a) Contacts with the Chinese over Hong Kong: Mr Maude's
visit to China
(b) Democratisation in Hong Kong
