As a separate point, the Minister hoped to send a couple of his senior magistrates to our District Court for training next year.
I continue to see it as most unlikely that any part of the present judicial assistance arrangements can survive 1997. We were working on a 3-5 year timescale for disengagement (as from 1988). Where have we got to on this? FCO telno 474 of February 1988, and my response in Hong Kong telno 807, are the last reference I have.
I am sending a copy of this letter to Roger Westbrook in Bandar Seri Begawan who may have a more up- to-date picture.
