Land Status of the 2 Cemeteries

The land status of the two war graves cemeteries in H.K. and the possible implications on them after 1997 were discussed.
It was clear the CWGC favoured the present arrangements under which land is allocated for the two cemeteries by way of Deeds of Appropriation. DUS advised the CWGC that this issue in respect of the CWGC and private cemeteries in general was now being considered by HKG.

DUS agreed that the Commission's interests would be better served if the PH & MS Ordinance could be amended to reflect more clearly the true relationship between the Commission and the Hong Kong Government in respect of the war graves in H.K., but suggested that whatever the Commission proposed to do, they should state them in full now so that the necessary amendments to the law could be examined in one go.
