Chek Lap Kok is to be cleared in two phases
2 January 1991: the two northern headlands and old quarry area for use for advanced works areas, six families with 27 persons being

For phase (a), the screening of residents for housing and assessment of compensation has been completed and offers made. Only one family was eligible for public housing: they have accepted a unit in Tuen Mun. The five other families had alternative housing arrangements and will move out before the end of December 1990. All but one of the families have already accepted their compensation offers.

For phase (b), screening
for rehousing eligibility has been carried out. Twenty-eight families have been found be existing public housing tenants; or else have alternative accommodation; 18 families have been accepted as eligible for public housing; seven are still being screened; one family has voluntarily withdrawn, and one is applying for a resite to continue farming. In addition, two families with indigenous status and a family inheriting a pre-war New Grant Lot will be offered resite houses in Wong Lung Hang, Tung Chung, together with a rental allowance of $2,100 a month until these are built.
