Route Three (Tsing Yi and Kwai Chung Sectors)

+4

Route Three is an esssential part of Hong Kong's overall transport infrastructure and when completed it will provide a direct north to south link between the busy urban areas and the border with China. It will, in addition, serve development areas in the North West New Territories, the expanding port at Kwai Chung and the growing traffic in West Kowloon and Hong Kong Island.

Eventually, another bridge, the Ting Kau Crossing, will provide a connection between the airport and the northern New Territories.

The scope of Route Three includes the Kwai Chung Section, a new 500 metre crossing of the Rambler Channel (which separates Tsing Yi Island from the mainland), the east to west crossing of Tsing Yi Island in 1.6 kilometres of bored tunnel and the Tsing Yi North coastal road.

The project will include 9.5 kilometres of dual three-lane to four-lane urban expressway from the Lantau Fixed Crossing to the West Kowloon waterfront at
