I have received a copy of Bridgen's letter to you of 2 April with a further covering letter to me of the same date. I was able to mention briefly to Mr Maude when he was here that Austin and Acer (as well as Bechtel and Halcrow) were in contention for this contract. Mr Maude was given a presentation by the Hong Kong Government on the whole Airport Project and its related infrastructure : it was rushed and gave Mr Maude very little opportunity to comment himself, so although he generally urged support for British firms he was not able to pin-point Acer's interest.
