HONG KONG/MALAYSIA AIR SERVICES AGREEMENT
I am writing with reference to the United Kingdom/Malaysia Agreed Record of 11 August 1989, which was signed by your
predecessor, Mr Samsudin Osman, and me. The final two paragraphs
of this document envisage negotiations taking place between the
Hong Kong and Malaysian authorities with a view to their reaching
agreement on the outstanding matters in the draft Hong
Kong/Malaysia Confidential Memorandum of Understanding attached
to the Agreed Record. I understand that these negotiations have
been successfully completed and
completed and that the Hong Kong/Malaysia
Confidential Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 19
September 1990. It now therefore falls to the United Kingdom and
Malaysian authorities in turn to sign our Confidential Memorandum
of Understanding.
The draft which was originally agreed provided, inter alia, for the application with immediate effect of the relevant provisions of the Hong Kong/Malaysia Confidential Memorandum of
Understanding on a provisional basis until the Hong Kong/Malaysia Air Services Agreement should enter into force. However, in view of our expectation that the Hong Kong/Malaysia Air Services
Agreement will shortly be signed and as the airlines of both
sides have no plans to exercise such additional rights in the immediate future, we have now omitted this provision as being
redundant.
