Shipping companies requiring additional copies of ENVELOPE TANGO should contact the Ministry of Defence, Directorate of Naval Operations and Trade (telephone number 01-218-2472) as soon as possible.

The GBMS organisation is detailed in Admiralty Notice to Mariners No 3A

Ships which have reported by FORMAT ALFA which are not boarded by an NCS officer at their next port of call and sail therefrom before

I should render another FORMAT ALFA reporting their voyage details upon sailing.

Ferries, offshore support vessels and other ships operating on regular or localised short sea routes of less than 48 hours duration need not send a FORMAT ALFA report before sailing on each voyage. On being instructed to open ENVELOPE TANGO they should send a report detailing the service on which they are employed. No further reports are required unless their employment changes.

The following ships should not hold ENVELOPE TANGO and should not signal reports: fishing vessels, non-commercial trade vessels eg floating docks and dredgers, and ships of less than 299 grt.

Your co-operation in these two exercises will be greatly appreciatedby both the Department of Transport and the Ministry of Defence.

I should be grateful if you would let me know by 23 February at the latest if your company does not wish to participate in the exercises or if there are particular ships that you wish to exclude.
