NATO EXERCISES TRADE DAGGER/EXPANDED SEA 90: NAVAL CONTROL OF SHIPPING: HONG KONG REGISTERED SHIPPING
Although the FCO have agreed in the past both for Trade Dagger 1988 and for WINTEX/CIMEX 1989 - to the inclusion of Hong Kong registered shipping in these NATO exercises, I thought it appropriate in view of the present climate to check with you that the FCO have no objection to our inclusion of HK register operators within the scope of the concurrent NATO NCS exercises Trade Dagger and Expanded Sea 1990. These will run from 19-30 March 1990 inclusive.
For WINTEX/CIMEX 89 you consulted the HK Government Secretariat (your ref: DPN 0175). I attach a copy of the core paragraphs to my proposed letter to other British shipowners which will give you the information you require should you wish to consult the Government Secretariat on this occasion.
I am copying this letter (without enclosure) for information to Capt B Telfer MOD (DNOT) MB 5357.
