DEBATE ON THE MOTION FOR THE SUMMER ADJOURNMENT
1.
The debate on the motion for the Summer Adjournment will be the first item of business on Monday 23 July. It will last for 3 hours. The Leader of the House (Sir Geoffrey Howe) has asked for briefing material for his use in winding up the debate.
2.
Briefing is required only on a few topical issues, and these are shown on the attached list. Could you please check the subject of concern to your Department, and let me have a short background note and the line to take by 11.00 am on Thursday 19 July.
3. The line to take should be not more than one half of one side of A4 paper, double spaced; the background should not be more than one side, also double spaced.
4.
In view of the short list of topics, the Leader's Office has asked for a list of "stand by" briefers from Departments who are available on the telephone up until about 8.30 pm on Monday evening. I should be grateful if all Departments, including those providing briefing, could let me have the name of a member of the Department who could provide a line to take if required.
