1. It may well be right to question the figures that we put together
in the paper on investment given to the FAC a year ago and I should like
to see some more work done on this. It will however be time consuming
and we do not have the resources to devote to it nor the expertise perhaps
to produce answers which can be guaranteed to stand up to informed
challenge (something for which we must allow). The Hong Kong Government
too is short of resources to carry out such an exercise (according to
its paper). We are both interested in demonstrating the strong economic
and business ties between Hong Kong and the UK albeit for slightly
different purposes but we have hitherto been in a position where we can
be more illustrative in our presentation and what we include.
