In 1989, Cathay Pacific Airways ordered new

additions to its Boeing 747-400 fleet which will require

172 Rolls Royce engines.

The airline ordered 24 Airbus

A330-300s for delivery in the mid-1990s.

This order is

worth nearly £l billion.

Cathay has also ordered a £6 million flight

simulator from Rediffusion.

£ Rolling Stock: In 1986, the Kowloon Canton Railway ordered 96 new carriages from Metro Cammell for delivery

The Mass Transit Railway bought £120 million

worth of British rolling stock, signalling and remote

control equipment from Britain.

Expansion of the MTR (for

instance to the new airport) will mean more opportunities

British sub-contractors (including Balfour Beatty, Hawker Siddeley, Vickers, Henry Boot and GEC) provided 20% of the equipment and services for the £83 million Light Rail Transit System in Tuen Mun.

£ Gas plant: Babcock's were awarded a £69 million contract in August 1989 for the construction of a new plant at Tai Po for the Hong Kong and China Gas Company. The UK component of this contract is worth £25 million.
