FOR ANSWER ON 21 MARCH 1990

То ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what is the size of British investment in Hong Kong as expressed as a percentage of national gross domestic product at factor cost.

REPLY

Information is available only on the book value of UK direct investment in Hong Kong which, at £1924 million at end-1987, represented 0.54 per cent of UK gross domestic product at factor cost (in current prices) in 1987. Direct investment is only one aspect of the UK's extensive commercial involvement in Hong Kong.
