Distribution:
Thank you for the helpful thoughts in TLUR.
We have also been thinking about this subject recently.
Mr Lennox-Boyd wrote to Mr Archie Hamilton, MODUK, on 22 October,
and Mr Hamilton replied on 9 November. (The exchange has been
copied to you.) Mr Hamilton's letter included an assurance
that FCO (and other Departments) would be fully consulted before any proposal is put forward for decision.
3.
We shall of course continue to keep in close touch with MOD
about developments, and I see you copied your teleletter to them.
We therefore see no need for any further input on the subject at
present.
4. When the time for a decision approaches, we shall ensure that all relevant considerations, including the arguments you
have helpfully deployed, are taken into account.
Signed: R A Burns
