HONG KONG STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING 12 JULY 90
36
1.
There was little of substance discussed after your departure but there were two items raised during the course of the meeting which are worth nothing.
2.
i.
Royal Naval Patrol Craft
MOD AUS (C) will now provide briefing on this issue for Mr Maude's visit to Hong Kong. Drafts will be prepared by SEC(O) (C) Mr Howard/Mr Lester. I have asked that it be sent to Ms Marsden by cop Tuesday 17 July.
ii.
Command Post Exercise (CPX) in Hong Kong
This exercise will take place in November 1991 and will involve input from HKG, RHKPF and HQBF. It does not involve any troop movements but simulated situations around the table. MOD are keen for a HKD member to participate in the exercise in London in order to coordinate a response to the exercise in Hong Kong. It would involve attendance by a desk officer for 1-2 hours a daily basis at the MOD. HKD role would be 'political input'. MOD intend to contact us with more details of this.
The Chairman also asked for and I gave, our assurance that the framework cos paper 'The 1991 Review of the Hong Kong Garrison Outline Withdrawal Plan' would not be seen by HKG.
3.
The next meeting is scheduled for January/February 1991.
