Thank you for your letter of 16 August.
You mention that the main item on the agenda for our December meeting will be the negotiation of the financial arrangements for the retention of the Patrol Craft. As stated, this suggests that you see no prospect of agreement on this issue before our meeting, whereas I felt that we were now fairly close to a solu- tion. To that end my staff will continue their efforts, as I am sure will yours.
In this regard you will have seen Ian Wotherspoon's letter to Richard Hatfield of 30 July 1990, to which a reply is awaited. It would be helpful to have a reply from Richard before we consider the final details of the agenda for our meeting.
