4. According to Mr Temple-Morris Mr Adley is attempting to arrange a parliamentary visit to Syria (as he did in 1988 against government advice). Sir David Steel has something similiar in mind and Mr Marshall hopes to organise an inward visit under IPU auspices. We have so far been fairly
non-comittal on these initiatives but we have not opposed
them. We believe that Mr Adley will be among the MPs seeing
the Head of the Syrian Interest Section, Muwaffaq Nassar, at lunch today (12 June). It seems very likely that they will be discussing parliamentary exchanges then.
