Action started in mid 1988
Progress stems from decisions taken by Steering Group at item (b). (Action on the
localisation of existing UK Merchant Shipping legislation applying in Hong Kong commenced in May 1985. Section (e).) Merchant Shipping (Ship Registration) Bill has been drafted and in circulation. Although this is new legislation, which strictly speaking does not require consultation, the intention is to inform the Chinese in the context of progress report on establishment of new Hong Kong Shipping Register. Draft Bill will be submitted to ExCo in June 1990
