SINO-BRITISH JOINT LIAISON GROUP: CATEGORY II VISIT:
29 SEPTEMBER 1 LOCTOBER
10
M. Dohchen 25/7.
We discussed this visit today in the light of UKRep JLG Hong Kong's telno Visit 1.
1.
2. You kindly agreed that there was, under these particular circumstances, a case for increasing the number of people participating in the visit, although this should not serve as a precedent for inviting other Chinese delegations on the Category II visits programme. We agreed that COI should pay for a maximum of twelve people (including Mr Galsworthy) to take part in the visit. Any other participants (eg other members of the UK team) should be funded by the Hong Kong Government or from other sources.
3.
We also discussed the possibility that the Chinese delgation might wish to attend a function at the Chinese
Embassy in London on 1 October. In this event the visit would be somewhat shorter than originally envisaged. I shall be asking UKRep JLG to check this with his opposite
number.
4.
I should be grateful if you could confirm that the above sets out the agreement we reached on the telephone this morning.
Chris Sainty.
