Treaty Section cannot provide we can, however, give you
INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION RELATING TO THE SIMPLIFICATION OF CUSTOMS FORMALITIES 1923
Published as Treaty Series TS.16/1925 Cmd.. 2347. A photocopy may be obtained from Loans Desk, LRD. A draft copy of the British ratification can be obtained from the Public Records Office (PRO) via Main Reference Room, LRD, quoting Bound Volume of Draft Instruments of Ratification F.0.83 Vol. 2470 covering 1924-1925. If a certified copy of the original is required, this would have to be obtained from the United Nations.
According to our records, the People's Republic of China has not ratified the Convention or Protocol. I attach a copy of the UN Status List of December 1988.
Our records also show that this Convention did not apply to Canada, Australia (or any territory under its authority), Irish Free State, India, Newfoundland, Irak, Nauru. The Sudan was also excluded in covering letter to League.
CONVENTION CONCERNING CUSTOMS FACILITIES FOR TOURING AND ADDITIONAL PROTOCOL RELATING TO THE IMPORTATION OF TOURIST PUBLICITY DOCUMENTS AND MATERIAL 1954
Published as Treaty Series TS. 70/1957 Cmnd.308 amended by TS.93/1967 Cmnd.3456.
According to our records this was extended to Hong Kong by notification received at the United Nations on 11 November 1960, the effective date being 9 February 1961 (file GY9/66/1960, which should be held at the PRO - if it has not been destroyed.
ADDITIONAL PROTOCOL RELATING TO IMPORTATION OF TOURIST PUBLICITY DOCUMENTS AND MATERIAL 1954
Also published as TS.70/1957 Cmnd.308. The file reference for the extension to Hong Kong is the same as that for the 1954 Convention above.
