Plant Protection Agreement for the Asia and Pacific Region Amendment to Article I(a) of the Agreement
The Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has the honour to draw attention to the Plant Protection Agreement for the Asia and Pacific Region, which entered into force on 2 July 1956.
At its Thirteenth Session (Manila, Philippines, April 1983), the Asia and Pacific Plant Protection Commission established under the Agreement, proposed that Article I(a) of the Agreement be amended to include the People's Republic of China in the definition of the Region and requested the Director-General to take the necessary action with a view to the aforementioned provision being amended accordingly.
In accordance with Article IX. 2 of the Agreement, an amendment to Article I(a) was submitted to the Council for approval. The Council, at its Eighty-fourth Session (November 1983), approved the proposed amendment by Resolution 1/84. This amendment is reproduced in Annex I hereto; the words underlined being added and the words in square brackets being deleted.
