Thank you for your letter of 30 April enclosing one from your constituent, Mr M H Tallboys of 10 Walnut Close, Stretton, about pensions of Hong Kong Civil Servants.
The Joint Declaration and the Basic Law for the Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region (SAR) both make express provision for the continued employment of civil servants after 1997 and for the payment of pensions for those who retire. They state that public servants previously serving in Hong Kong may all remain in employment and continue their service with pay, allowances, benefits and conditions of service no less favourable than before, and that the Hong Kong SAR will similarly pay pensions irrespective of the nationality or place of residence of the persons concerned.
