Mr Godfrey was born in England on 30 July 1933. appointed Judge of the High Court on agreement terms 24 November 1986. He now applies for transfer to the permanent establishment. However, he would first want to seek an answer to the following question -
"If, after 1st July 1997, the
government of the Hong Kong SAR fails or refuses to pay the pensions payable to Fellind Judge under the Judicial Scheme, will the UK
Officers Penstons
government assume the liability to do
so?"
You had given advice on the subject of pension safeguards in paragraph 1
in paragraph 1 of your telegram No. 1869 dated 14 September 1989. We would be grateful for your advice on whether a similar line should be taken in our reply to the Judge.
Yours faithfully,
