Latest Position

The Immigration Service Officers Association petitioned Government House on 24.3.90 to protest against the disparity in pay between them and their counterparts in CSD and C&E. They also threatened to take industrial action should the Administration fail to give

to give them a satisfactory reply within two months. The actions would include :-

(a)

(b)

non-performance of clerical duties;

non-performance of new duties such as processing applications for British Nationality and mandatory repatriation of VBPs;

(c) taking leave en masse.

Departmental management is preparing a submission to the Standing Committee and Contingency arrangements are being planned.

To settle the dispute

The Foremen (General Duty Teams) on hawker control duties requested certain improvements to their salary scale, and their special duty allowance as well as a re-structuring of the General Duty Teams. They held а press conference on 29.3.90 demanding a reply within 14 days failing which they might take industrial action. USD is considering a suitable response to staff.
