During the two-month attachment period with the Registrar General's Department, the Director of Intellectual Property (Designate) will be required, in conjunction with

be responsible for finalising the setting up of the new Intellectual Property Department and/or planning and organising the
administrative arrangements in respect of staff recruitment, staff consultation, office accommodation, transfer of staff, stores and equipment, etc.;
(b) plan administrative and legal policies to be followed in the Intellectual Property Department, taking into account the procedures currently employed in the Registrar General's Department;
(c offer views to Hong Kong Government's trade negotiators in the GATT Uruguay Round Multilateral Negotiations on Trade-related Aspects of Intellectual Properties and to participate in the negotiations where necessary.

the department and for ensuring that the objectives of the Intellectual Property Department, which will initially comprise the Trade Marks Registry and the Patents Registry, are met. In the initial stage, he Will be responsible for the setting-up and development of the new department to promote, both at home and Overseas, 0 greater zwareness of the importance of intellectual property rights and the Hong Kong actively protects such rights. In the longer term he will be responsible for planning new legislation and administrative systems for the introduction in Hong Kong of protection for other types of
