required initially to spend a period of time in a hotel or other temporary accommodation before a quarter is made available. In such cases hotel charges (with the exception of half of the 10% service charge) will be paid by the Hong Kong Government together with a hotel subsistence allowance at a rate determined by the Hong Kong Government. This is currently $85 per day.
The quarter will be made available to the officer by direct allocation. Any queries with regard to quarters may be directed to either the Quartering Officer, Civil Service Branch or the Royal Hong Kong Police Superintendents' Association Quartering Representative.

When
Casual leave may be granted (subject to the exigencies of the service) at the rate of one day for each completed month of resident service. The maximum amount which may be accumulated or taken at any one time is 30 days. casual leave is taken for longer than 12 consecutive working days, intervening Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted general holidays will be counted as days of leave. Any casual leave which remains untaken at the end of the appointment period lapses.
An advance of two days' casual leave may be granted immediately on arrival by air on first appointment.
During the period of attachment, the officer is eligible for the grant of sick leave on the recommendation of a Hong Kong Government Medical Officer up to a total of 91 days on full pay and 91 days on half pay.
"Passage" means a standard Economy Class air passage approved by the Director of Accounting Services.
"Family" when used in relation to passages means the officer's spouse and unmarried children under the age of 19. It also includes any child under the age of 21 in full time education or vocational training or who on account of physical or mental infirmity is dependant on the officer. The eligibility for passages (including school passages) of step-children and children of divorced and legally separated candidates with access to the children should be clarified before accepting appointment.
