5. Before deciding your option, you are advised to study the following Government regulation carefully:
"Officers serving on probation may, during the period of probation, apply to the Secretary for the Civil Service to transfer to agreement terms. Such an application is only approved if there are strong compassionate grounds or it is in the Government's interest to alter the officer's terms of appointment. If such a transfer is applied for within three months from the date of appointment on probation and is approved, the transfer takes effect from the date of appointment; but if an application made more than three months after the date of appointment is approved, the transfer takes effect from the date of application."
Conversion from probationary to agreement terms after appointment is not easy and approval is rarely given.
6. A Police Inspector who opted for agreement terms in the first instance can apply for transfer to pensionable terms after appointment and this is normally approved provided his service and conduct have been satisfactory.
7. This summary of the conditions of service applicable to officers serving in Hong Kong has been prepared as a guide to officers on first appointment.
