12th March 1990
In January 1990, during your visit to Hong Kong, this
Association furnished you with a written submission on two of the main areas of concern to our membership and on the 19th January we followed this up with a letter expressing the urgent need for answers to the issues raised.
I am now writing again to stress how imperative it is that we receive a comprehensive reply as soon as possible as the Association has scheduled our Annual General Meeting for the 10th May 1990, in order we can comply with Hong Kong law, and the issues will be aired not only as agenda items but also through the supplementary questions that some members have already given notice that they will ask. It will be totally unacceptable to cur membership to hear, yet again, that no answers are available since this has been the continuing situation for several years.
Recent events in Hong Kong have caused a further down- turn in already low police morale and with the Hong Kong Government prevaricating and procrastinating on almost every issue we must place our hopes in Her Majesty's Goremment especially since the Hong Kong Government is insistent that the answers we need must come from you.
I must therefore repeat my request for urgent answers in order we can present ac accurate and informed assessment at the Annual General Meeting failing which, we will have no alternative but to inform our members that, in addition to the Hong Kong Government, we are now also being let down by the British Government and this will be reflected in our press release after the conclusion of the meeting.
