this Note, German Democratic Republic nationals holding
valid German Democratic Republic passports shall be free
to travel to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and
Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man
without the necessity of first obtaining a visa on their
passports.
2. Subject to the provisions of paragraphs 3, 4 and 5 of
this Note, British nationals holding valid British.
passports of a type described in the Annex to this Note
shall be free to travel to the German Democratic Republic
without the necessity of first obtaining a visa on their
passports.

It is understood that the waiver of the visa
requirement shall not exempt British nationals proceeding
to the German Democratic Republic, nor German Democratic
Republic nationals proceeding to the United Kingdom of
Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands
and the Isle of Man from the necessity of complying with
the respective laws and regulations concerning the entry
and residence (temporary or permanent) of foreigners and
their participation, whether on a self-employed or
salaried basis, in gainful activity. Travellers who are
unable to satisfy the immigration authorities that they
comply with these laws and regulations are liable to be
refused leave to enter, land or stay in the respective
territories.
