Many thanks for your quick reply to Charles Haswell. This is helpful but I have some difficulty with paragraph 3 of your draft. This does not tie in with the final paragraph of Wilma Toong's letter to Miss Roders dated 30 March. There it is stated that the D of I "reviewed" the case but decided there were no extenuating circumstances Your draft suggests that had the information about her connection to Mr Brennan been known in time, the decision would have been different.
I would be grateful if you would clarify whether the Immigration Department did indeed review the case. If they did, I think all we can do is apologise for the unhappy experience, state the current policy and say that HKG are of course keeping it under active review in the light of the rapidly changing situation in Eastern Europe.
