Dear Hugh
Thank you for your letter of 17 April 1990 enclosing one
from your constituent, Mr J L Brennan of 30 Tetherdown,
London N10, seeking clarification of certain aspects of
the Hong Kong Government's visa policy.
First of all let me say that I am sorry that Mr Brennan and his wife were put through this unhappy experience.
The background is that, for political and security
reasons, the Hong Kong Government have long adopted a
restrictive policy on the entry of nationals from East
European countries, irrespective of their places of
residence. Under this policy, social visits are not
normally allowed.
