Next round to be held in W/C 16 January 1990 in Peking.

Ban on Ivory trade

HKG has asked UKG to enter at CITES on behalf of HK a 6-month reservation. Still no response from UK, although CITES ban due to come into effect in January 1990. Strong UK environmental lobby against HKG's request.

International acceptance of the BN (0) passport

Wives and widows of ex-servicemen

To ensure international acceptance of the BN (0) passport as a normal British passport issued by HMG.

At the Policy Debate on 9 November 1988, the Senior Member of Leg Co requested HKG to make a representation to HMG to assist the case of granting British Citizenship to wives and widows of

ex-servicemen.

No country has indicated that it will not recognize the BN (0) passport. Local press has lost interest.

Case is now with FCO.
