Published by Chung Pao Newspaper Co. Ltd. and owned by

Mr. FU Chui-shu, former proprietor of a Taiwan paper, the United Press.

He sold the United Press to the Taiwan government and came to HK to

start the Centre Daily News with an American edition. He met Deng

Xiaoping in Peking in 1981. The editorial stance recently shifted

from independent to pro-China. The paper is operating at a loss and

it is reported Mr. Fu is receiving financial assistance from Peking.

Ching Po Daily News (Pro-Communist)

Estimated circulation: 40,000

Proprietorship:

Published by Mr. MOK Loong-kwong (alias MOK Kwong)

who is also the Chief Editor. He is the son-in-law of the late

Mr. CHAN Har-chi, founder of the paper.

The Express (Fai Po)(Independent)

Estimated circulation: 70,000

Proprietorship: Published by the Express Newspaper Co. Ltd.

The paper

was started by four former staff of Sing Tao Jih Pao with Miss Sally Aw

Sian as the Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Financial Daily (Independent)

Estimated circulation: 4,000

Its

Proprietorship: Founded by Mr. KONG Tak-uan, a property developer.

The paper was subsequently sold to Ming Pao Daily News Co. Ltd.

publisher, Mr. Michael Wong, was a former reporter of the HK Economic

Journal.
